the backstory

Through the City of Edmonton’s urban wellness initiative, RECOVER, we came together to explore how we can connect marginalized community members in the Old Strathcona area with housed neighbours and businesses with odd jobs. The idea was to hire the community members to complete jobs that we all have around our home or business and need help with, all while building bridges and strengthening relationships.

As we began to prototype and learn more about the area and its neighbours, we realized that our mandate to build community could be achieved through different means (not just odd jobs!) driving us to continue exploring the opportunities available that would allow us to fulfill this goal.

Through the generous support of Social Innovation Canada, we recorded the story behind THE NEIGHBOURS PROJECT, exploring the lessons that we learned and the discoveries we made.
